If I could describe my February in less than 5 words, it would be: Pokémon, and Dragon Quest.
I started and finished Dragon Quest VII Reimagined. This came to me as a surprise, because I thought I would take all year to finish it, but it was extremely hard to put down and I loved the game! I finished it in about 70 hours and filed it with a note in my head that said “possible contender for Game of the Year”. Yes, I know it’s early in the year, but that’s how strongly I feel about the game.
…I may also have added Maribel on my list of potential cosplays too.
The other half of my brain was thinking about Pokémon, of course.
Pokémon Presents News
I stayed up for the Pokémon Presents last week, which was 1am here at the time. For a 30th anniversary, I felt that the presentation was largely uneventful, except for one big announcement. I’m sure you’re dying to guess what I thought about all the news and of course, the announcement of Pokémon Winds and Waves.
There was no news of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon yet again. I knew I was probably asking for too much, but I’m going to chalk it up to Lord Arceus not hearing my prayers. Maybe next year.
Pokémon Winds and Waves
I am not going to lie- it looks fantastic. The art style is gorgeous and the game has a brightness to it that was very possie vibes. I actually love all the water too. We travel underwater in the trailer, so fingers crossed that Dive is back. I was recently informed by a friend that this next region is based off the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia. While I’m still waiting for an Australian region, this is still good news to me as I’m part Malaysian!
I was surprised to see that the release date is 2027 and not this year. Initially, I was disappointed because, my first thought was “Damn, no new Pokémon game this year”, before my brain countered with, “Okay, but maybe it’ll be a quality Pokemon game if they spend more time on it”. TLDR, I’m more than happy to wait if it means it’ll be a masterpiece!

I have also been seeing so much stuff on social media about the three starters, and am glad that everyone’s having a blast with the memes.
I don’t have any other concerns at this point, except that they better not turn Pombon bipedal (they will). And yes, I will most likely pick Pombon, not because it’s the fire type starter and we all know I have a type, but simply because it reminds me of my beloved family Pomeranian Chihuahua that passed away a few weeks ago. It just feels right to pick Pombon for this reason.

As for which version of the game I will get, Winds or Waves, I haven’t decided just yet but am leaning towards Waves. It will probably depend on the legendaries!
Pokémon Pokopia
I am PUMPED. I plan to make a lot of content regarding this game, so my entire identity for (at least) March will be this game. Reviews are out and I’m currently playing dodge because I don’t want any spoilers and want to make up my own mind about it.
Super, super excited. If this is one of the major Pokémon games we get all year, then I sure hope it’s an amazing one!
Other Pokémon News
What else was there?
Pokémon Champions looked very interesting. I have fallen off the competitive bandwagon for a while now, and even though the trailer was cool, I will wait and see if I get back on. Not a hard no, but it might come down to how fast I think I can get back in to it. I have similar feelings about Pokémon Unite too, which was a game I really enjoyed when it came out but bounced off.
Pokémon FireRed is on the list as well! I have already been daydreaming about what team I want for this game. Having played it years ago, I want to try different Pokémon this time around!

Pokémon Legends Z-A DLC news was probably the least interesting, purely because there wasn’t really any content to be mentioned. Garchomp Z Mega Evolution is cool but the news itself could’ve probably been a separate post. I guess I also expected more for the 30th anniversary.
One Pokémon game I never got to play myself was Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness. I never had a Gamecube, and would go to my best friend’s house to play it after school. One day she booted up XD: Gale of Darkness and explained it to me and I thought it was SICK. So now that it’s been announced as part of the Nintendo Switch Online Subscription, I will try and get my hands on it.
That was all I wanted to share this time around!
Look after yourself,
Elena
